The state of Karnataka is located in the south western side of India mostly on the Deccan plate. Karnataka is rich in bio-diversity and it has a recorded forest range of 38720 km² which constitutes 20.19% of the total geographical area of the state.
The forests of Karnataka is home to 25% of the elephants and 10% of the tiger population of India. The wide forests of Karnataka still unexplored and hide many unidentified species of fauna and flora. Karnataka has five national parks and two national parks, Bandipur and Nagarhole are part of Nilgiri Biosphere. The western region of Karnataka is Western Ghats which is known for its biodiversity.
